SCFA announces Week 2 National Division Players of the Week

The Southern California Football Association is proud to announce the 2024 Week 2 Players of the Week.

Offensive:
NATIONAL DIVISION
Will Burns, Golden West (QB, 6-2, 210, Fr., Mission Viejo, CA/Trabuco Hills HS)
Burns had a huge game in helping lead No. 8 Golden West to a 37-36 upset win over No. 1 Riverside. Burns threw for 225 yards and 3 TDs on 23 of 45 passing. His 23-yard run came right before he connected with Beck Walker for what proved to be the game-winning 12-yard touchdown with 1 minute left in the contest. Burns also led GWC rushers with 9 carries for 90 yards.

AMERICAN DIVISION
Sean Thompson, Compton (WR, 6-4, 220, Fr., Los Angeles, CA/Verbum Dei HS)
Thompson hauled in game highs of 8 receptions for 170 yards with 3 receiving touchdowns.

Defensive:
NATIONAL DIVISION

Sunia Maafu, Canyons (LB, 5-11, 215, Fr., Clearwater, FL/Clearwater Central HS)
Maafu had a big night in the Cougars 29-13 win at No. 5 Fullerton College on Saturday night. Maafu ended his night with two sacks and a team-high eight total tackles. Included in that number were five solo stops. That effort helped the Cougars' defense hold Fullerton to just 163 total yards of offense.

AMERICAN DIVISION
Colin Farhberger, Glendale (LB, 5-11, 220, Fr., Tracy, CA/Village Christian HS)
In his first game for Glendale, Colin Farhberger had 11 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 pass breakup and blocked two kicks in Glendale's 37-13 win over Victor Valley.

Special Teams/All-Purpose:
NATIONAL DIVISION
Luis Rodriguez, Canyons (K, 6-1, 200, Fr., Tujunga, CA/Verdugo Hills HS)
Rodriguez had a big night in the Cougars 29-13 win at No. 5 Fullerton College on Saturday night. Rodriguez finished the game a perfect 5-of-5 on field goals (36, 32, 37, 27, 42) with four coming in the first half. His final attempt in the fourth quarter went for a long of 42 and capped the road victory for COC. The freshman also converted on both PATs and handled kickoff duties with eight kicks for 453 yards for an average of 56.6 per, with one touchback.

AMERICAN DIVISION
Jake Wisener, Glendale (WR, 6-1, 195, Fr., Cypress Ranch, TX/Cypress Ranch HS)
Wisener returned three punts for 116 yards including an 81-yard return for a touchdown in Glendale's 37-13 win over Victor Valley. He also caught two passes for 19 yards including a 7-yard TD.
